The Eko Hotel and Suits, Lagos, lit up literally penultimate week during the Spirit of Lagos ceremony, an event aimed at honouring some Lagos residents and organisations who have shown exemplary conducts in the state under its Citizens Day Awards 2015. Saturday Beats brings you some of the gists from the ceremony. Tight team of Helen Paul, Ali Baba Ali Baba would always live up to his name as the king of comedy. He coanchored the event with Helen Paul and the two made sure there was no boring moment. Ali used the opportunity to crack jokes and even ‘yab’ high ranking Lagos State officials as everybody burst out laughing. Helen, was also at her best as she never went out of tune all through the event. The other side of Funke Akindele Jenifer, as Funke Akindele is popularly known, is just a homely babe who behaves like the girl next door. And she showed this humble side when she came to present an award to the students who won the school’s challenge. She patiently presented the medals to all the students on the stage and she didn’t look harassed as all the students wanted to take a picture with her.
Children’s Day now Lagos Day
One of the last duties the former Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, performed was to declare the Children’s Day (May 27) as Lagos Day as well. Fashola, who also revealed those who he honoured (including the lady who found and returned millions of naira at the Lagos International Airport) at the event, encouraged his successor to make sure the event is celebrated annually with fanfare.
Oritsefemi preaches ‘Change’
Double Wahala crooner, who before now was a die-hard Peoples Democratic Party’s fan, may have turned around. He kept hailing the All Progressives Congress-led Lagos State government even before his performance. Anyway, his performance was great as so many people sang along with him.
Fire brand Yemi Alade
Johnny exponent, Yemi Alade, is a babe on fire! The lady closed the ceremony with a spectacular performance. Her dexterity on the stage was unrivalled. It was as if the stage couldn’t contain her, she came down from the stage and mingled with the crowd who were already on their feet dancing to her numbers. Yemi dished out hot tracks back to back to everybody’s delight.
