The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and also former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari said he will not have an office for first lady if he is elected into power in the forthcoming 2015 elections.
He said; the Nigeria constitution does not provide for office of first lady and there is’nt any official role for presidents’ wives. He said this during an exclusive interview with Weekly Trust in Kaduna. According to him, there are ministries which are constitutional like the Ministry of Women Affairs and they should be allowed to play their roles.
He added that women would however play an important role in his administration as he knows what they can do if given the opportunity.
“I was raised by my mother, as I lost my father when I was under six years, so I know what a woman can do if given the chance,” he said.
He explained that he had the greatest respect for women.
