Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku does not have a boot deal… and Jose Mourinho jokes that is behind his bad form in front of goal
Jose Mourinho joked that the reason Romelu Lukaku cannot score is because the Manchester United striker is not currently contracted to any brand for his boots.
Lukaku wore black boots against Watford on Tuesday night, with photographs seemingly showing that the Belgian had coloured in the white Nike tick with a marker.
Not wanting to give the swoosh any free publicity during the televised Premier League tie at Vicarage Road, which United won 4-2, Lukaku is in the market for a new sponsor.
The 24-year-old squandered several chances against Watford and Mourinho said: ‘At this moment he doesn’t have a contract with any brand. That’s why he’s playing with black boots.
‘He finished his deal and now he is waiting for the right offer and he is playing in black boots.
‘I think he needs a brand to give him the right boots and to pay him the right money so he goes back to goals
‘But jokes apart, he works amazingly well. Amazing player, amazing professional, great condition, great colleague. I couldn’t be happier with him.’
Marouane Fellaini has been locked in a legal battle with New Balance with the United midfielder suing the brand for £2million.
He claims the boots they handed him were not fit for use. Mourinho laughed when put to him that Lukaku will not likely choose to go with them.
