Memphis Depay has insisted he does not want to be burdened by comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo as he starts his Manchester United career, ESPN reports.
The Holland international has arrived from PSV Eindhoven for £25m after finishing as the top scorer in the Dutch league last season.
Ronaldo was United’s last prolific winger, scoring 91 times in the three seasons before his record 2009 move to Real Madrid.
But while Depay, 21, is an admirer of the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, he hopes to make a name in his own right.
“I don’t want to compare myself with somebody like that,” he said in a news conference.
“That is the best player in the world. I don’t want to talk too much. I want to show it on the pitch. I am still young, [I have not been] in the game for many years in the game, I [only] played two seasons for PSV. I want to let my feet speak.”
